The 3D mammogram, explained.

Earlier detection, more accurate results: 3D mammography

More than 60 images instead of four, integrated with AI technology and read by a breast-specialized radiologist. That's how a Solis Mammography 3D mammogram finds cancer earlier, and calls you back less. Results in two business days.

What makes it a better mammogram

A 3D mammogram is an advanced imaging technique that captures low-dose X-ray images from many angles to build a detailed, three-dimensional view of the breast. It gives our breast-specialized radiologists more than 60 images to evaluate instead of four, which helps them:

  • Detect 54% more invasive cancers than a 2D mammogram
  • Reduce callbacks by 37%
  • Find cancers as early as stage 0, for more peace of mind

The formula for a better mammogram.

Comfort

A paddle shaped like a breast.

SmartCurve replaces the flat plate with a curved surface.

93% of women who found mammograms painful rated it more comfortable.

A relaxed patient holds still, and stillness is image quality.

Accuracy

3D, with AI on every exam.

More than 60 slices instead of four flat images.

AI flags densities, calcifications and architectural distortion.

Included at no extra cost.

Expertise

Radiologists who only read mammograms.

100% breast-dedicated radiologists.

Breast imaging is a subspecialty, and volume matters.

Expertise matters.

Four pictures. Or sixty.

Breast tissue is three-dimensional, so on a flat image healthy tissue can hide, or imitate, a tumor. Here is what changes when the scan can see in layers.

How the screening sees

2D mammogram

Four flat images of each breast in a single plane. Overlapping tissue can conceal a small cancer, and normal tissue can look like one, which is harder still in dense breasts.

The old standard

Solis Mammography 3D, with AI technology

An arc of low-dose images reconstructed into more than 60 thin slices, so your radiologist can scroll through the breast one millimeter at a time. AI trained on millions of exams flags areas of concern at the earliest stage, standard on every exam at no extra cost.

54% more invasive cancers found, 37% fewer callbacks

A mammogram isn't a yes or no. Five things get read, every time.

Your radiologist evaluates a specific set of findings across both breasts, then compares each one against your prior exams.

Masses

Shape, margin and density of any distinct lesion. Smooth and round reads differently than spiculated.

Calcifications

Tight clusters of microcalcification can be the earliest visible sign of DCIS, years before a lump.

Asymmetries

Differences between your two breasts, or any change from the exam you had last year.

Breast density

Dense tissue both raises risk and hides cancer on film. You get your category with every result.

Architectural distortion

Tissue pulled out of its normal pattern with no visible mass. This is where 3D helps most.

Quick answers

The questions people ask first.

Woman with her arms crossed, eyes closed, smiling
Is it painful?
Most women describe it as a few seconds of pressure per view, not pain. Solis Mammography pairs 3D with SmartCurve, a paddle curved to the shape of the breast that spreads compression evenly. In clinical studies, 93% of women who found flat-plate mammograms uncomfortable rated SmartCurve more comfortable.
Breast cancer doesn't run in my family. Do I still need one?
Yes. About 85% of breast cancers occur in women with no family history. For women at average risk, an annual screening mammogram starting at 40 is the recommended routine, and it is a wellness exam, so no doctor's order is needed to book.
Do I need to prep beforehand?
Very little. Wear a two-piece outfit so you only remove your top, and skip deodorant and lotion that day, since they can show up on images as white spots. Eat as normal and take any prescribed medications. Bring your ID and insurance card.
How long does it take?
Plan for about 30 minutes at the center. The imaging itself takes only a few minutes per breast. Many women book during a lunch break. Results arrive by secure email within two business days.
What if I have breast implants?
You can still have a screening mammogram. Our technologists are trained to image women with implants. SmartCurve may not be usable with implants; your technologist will determine this at the time of your exam.
Does 3D use more radiation than 2D?
A 3D screening mammogram uses a low dose of radiation, comparable to a standard 2D mammogram and well within the safety limits set by the FDA. The benefit is the detail: more than 60 thin images instead of four flat ones, for the same visit.
